VMworld 2018 US - Quick Summary

Updated: May 13, 2023

#VMworld US 2018 welcomed almost 25 thousand people from more than 85 countries and the energy there was incredible.

We had the opportunity to see #VMware's CEO Pat Gelsinger and CTO Ray O’Farrell sharing how VMware is shaping the future of cloud, mobile, networking, and security - as well as innovating in emerging areas like IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning, edge computing and containers. We also witnessed Sanjay Poonen, COO, VMware Customer Operations, speaking with #Malala Yousafzai, the youngest person ever awarded the #Nobel Peace Prize, sharing her perspective on the challenges girls face in their communities as well as the opportunities to create greater access to education for them across the world.

Then, on the last day, we got an opportunity to take a step out of our day to day and consider big ideas like autonomous flying machines, achieving happiness and how the brain drives our perceptions and view of the real world.

Besides that, we had access to hundreds of breakout sessions, thousands of labs and loads of options to play, network and have fun. Here is a summary of the most notable stats:

  • 800 breakout sessions

  • 10,000+ hands-on labs completed

  • 61,000+ social media posts with the hashtag #VMworld

  • 300+ customers certified

  • 3,000+ VMware 20th birthday cupcakes consumed

  • 7,200+ attendees at the VMworld Fest

Being a long term partner and "king of scale" when it comes to #VMware backup and recovery, #Veritas had a strong presence at VMworld this year. Customers and partners that visited booth #1242 in the Solution Exchange area had the chance to see a full Veritas house providing presentations and demos of various products and new features, such as:

  • The new simplified #NetBackup user interface and how it helps you get instant access and recovery to VMware

  • How NetBackup Virtual Appliances provide fast, simple data protection for virtualized environments for your remote offices to your data center to the cloud

  • Various demos, including Veritas Resiliency Platform (VRP) showcasing how to provide resiliency for cloud and VMware workloads, how to automate recovery of your entire data center or individual applications or VMs

  • How to get data protection for VMware on AWS environment with consistent architecture and operational experiences on-premises or in the cloud, etc.

Also at the booth, Veritas' partners such as Virtech UAE, Nutanix, Amazon Web Services, and Pure Storage delivered theatre presentations on their experience in using cutting edge Veritas products in solving pressing customers' challenges.

It was a great privilege for us to have our industry expert Virgil represent #Virtech as the only partner from the MENA region to back Veritas at the event. Virgil delivered several presentations on the latest NetBackup release, recorded an onsite podcast and shared his view on how Veritas is leading the data management space and how we are addressing some of the more complex industry problems.

Virtech is a solution provider, highly focused on Data Management, and so we work closely with Veritas and make good use of products such as NetBackup, eDiscovery Platform, etc. to enable our customers to harness the power of their information. Although we are new as a company within UAE, our industry experts are proud to have successfully delivered hundreds of projects across Europe and the Middle East. Also, Veritas recognized us as Veritas Information Professional which, similarly to VMware vExpert, is given to those partners or customers demonstrating outstanding contribution to the community.

Have any challenges that you’d like to address or simply want to find out more, please get in touch with us by calling our number +971 4 580 7555 or email us at sales@virtech.ae. We are more than happy to serve you.
